Who Created Tai Chi Chuan?

I was at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, waiting to board the flight back to Penang, on 15 July, Friday night.

There's a nice bookstore at the airport. I went in and searched around for books on Tai Chi Chuan. I found a few.

It disturbed me very much after reading a few pages of some of those books!

Perhaps the legend was too well-known, or just nobody bothered to find out the reliability of the sources claiming that Zhang Sanfeng, the Wudang priest who found Tai Chi Chuan. I was one of those who believed in this theory too!

One book claimed that he got the inspiration from observing a snake and a crane fighting. I have one book making the same claim.

There's a recorded source claiming that Zhang Sanfeng learned Tai Chi Chuan in his dream. Movies and kung-fu novels also shown that Zhang Sanfeng was the one who created Tai Chi Chuan!!!

Many Chinese scholars and writers have disagreed with this record!

Who then created Tai Chi Chuan?

I have written 2 articles on my website:

Origins and Historical Development of Tai Chi Chuan at

http://www.TaichiExerciseForHealth.com/history.htm

and How Did Tai Chi Chuan Get Its Name? at

http://www.TaichiExerciseForHealth.com/taichi.htm

Sorry if I sound rude, but I need to put those researched information to public so that we can appreciate the art better when we understand its historical development and the core principles behind Tai Chi Chuan.

And also, I don't mean to put down Zhang Sanfeng. For your information, I started learning meditation at the age of 10, and in the scriptures that I based my meditation on, Zhang Sanfeng's name had been mentioned many, many times. His techniques and ideology influenced my initial meditation practices.

So, I actually respect this great master of the past, though historical evidents of his existence were not very clear!

What I want to share is a solid source of historical records that can be proven to be reliable, until present dates. Who knows if they may uncover other records or sources that may prove whatever current theories otherwise!

So, read my articles:

1. Origins and Historical Development of Tai Chi Chuan at http://www.TaichiExerciseForHealth.com/history.htm

2. How Did Tai Chi Chuan Get Its Name? at http://www.TaichiExerciseForHealth.com/taichi.htm

And have a nice day! :)

May the Energy of Tai Chi be with you!
