"Give Me 5 Minutes And I'll Show You What Is It Mean By 'Internet Marketing'!"

Dear Prospective Clients,

I'm sure you have heard a lot about 'Internet Marketing'.

Let's clarify the term 'internet marketing' first...

Internet marketing, also referred to as web marketing, online marketing, Internet advertising, or eMarketing, is the marketing of products or services over the Internet.

Internet marketing is not something which seeks to replace your business. In fact, it complements traditional marketing very well.

In traditional marketing, you need 'prospects'. If you're a retailer, you need people to come to your outlet. If you're a service provider, you need leads for appointment.

Internet Marketing Element #3: Traffic

In the internet marketing sense, you need 'traffics' - not just any traffics, but potential and targeted traffics to your website.

Once you have the people in your outlet, or you have the opportunity to meet up with the prospects, you need to present your selling propositions to them, with the end result in view: convert them.

So, the next element in the internet marketing is about 'conversion'.

Internet Marketing Element #2: Conversion

It takes these two to tango.

Now, I've heard about people talking about 'traffics', 'traffics', 'traffics' etc with SEO, blah, blah, blah. They didn't give you the whole picture, friend!

Just imagine, if you have a lot of people coming to your outlet, but your sales staff fail to do their job well... would you be able to get the business?

So, whenever people asked me to help them getting traffics, before I do so, I would ask them: How well is your website converting?

"Oh well, I have the website. It should sell!"

"I mean, specifically, out of 100 people who comes to your site, how many of them are converted into customers?"

         "Should have lah..."

Having A Lot Of Traffic,
But If Conversion Is Poor... It's A Total Waste!

Look, having a website, is just like having an outlet. If you don't prepare (train) your people to do the selling and convert prospects into customers, you're not getting any sales.

Similarly, you need to prepare a website to sell. Of course, I'm talking about a sales site, not the normal corporate style website. (For examples of sales sites and corporate style website, click here.)

Now, that still doesn't guarantee that you'll be able to market your product online.

         Huh?

There's one most ignored issue people have missed when the guru talk about "You can sell anything over the internet!"

Internet Marketing Element #1: E-Marketability

Is your product highly e-marketable? (OK, I coined that term.)

Can you product be sold through the internet? Is there a demand for it? Or will people buy your products online? Are they looking for just information, or are they looking for things to buy?

What about delivery and fulfillment? Any risk or restriction involved?

So, before you plan on setting up your sales site and start driving traffics, you should do your online research. It can't stop to amaze me that many internet marketers DID not do online research before jumping into a project.

And I've even see internet marketers help their clients to setup their sales site to promote their client's product before even doing the due research! Result: 1-2 sales a month. Is this what you want?

And frankly, before even I agree to help a client to setup their sales site or drive traffics, I would do my due research online first.

Online Research Reduces The Risk Of Any Online Projects!

If it's not highly e-marketable, I'm sorry. It's not feasible. No point risking it.

"Oh, my products are selling well in the market. It should sell online!" Someone has protested before.

Nope. It may sell well offline. It is not necessarily marketable online. (Not e-marketable).

It's just like offline business... I'm sure before you start your business, you would have asked around, did surveys, check the areas, test the market etc, right?

So, the first move before going into promoting your products over the internet is - research.
